Barry + MIkey
I’ve shot weddings in a few different countries but this one is probably my favorite. I am obsessed with the history of the British monarchs and especially Elizabeth I. If you’ve seen the movie with Cate Blanchett, then the part where she’s roaming around a big house then they come to bring her the ring to tell her she’s the new queen….well that happened in real life at this wedding venue. That’s right, they just gave us free roam of the palace that was Queen Elizabeth’s childhood home and favorite residence.
And while Hatfield House in itself was magical so were Barry and Mikey. Mikey is a puppeteer, who unironically has performed as War Horse for Queen Elizabeth II. Barry is a playwright from Ireland who moved to London as soon as he met Mikey, knowing he was going to marry him. They brought their playful personality into the wedding decor, using legos as cufflinks and cake toppers. The menus had coloring books on the back, each place setting was assigned a character from their favorite shows and movies. It was a lot of laughter and love set amongst an iconic venue. Enjoy!
